Halloween Songs and Finger-plays

Black Cat (song)                                                       Little Ghost   (poem)
Black Cat, Black Cat,                                                I saw a little ghost,
It is Halloween~                                                        He saw me too!
You don’t scare me,                                                 I said, “Hi!”
Cuz’-you can’t be seen.                                          And, he said,  “Boo!”
I can see you cuz’,
Your eyes are green…
Black Cat, Black Cat—
It is Halloween!

Five Little Jack O’ Lanterns                               I'M A LITTLE PUMPKIN
(Finger play)                                                        Tune: “I’m A Little Teapot”
Five little Jack O’ Lanterns                                 I’m a little pumpkin,
Sitting on a gate,                                                Orange and round.
The first one said,                                              You can talk to me,
Oh, my it’s getting late!”                                 I can’t make a sound.
The second one said,                                        But if you scoop me out,
“There are witches in the air.”                          And put a candle in,
The third one said,                                            Carve me a face,
"But we don’t care.”                                           I can grin and grin!
The fourth one said,                                           By Jean Warren
Let's run and run and run!"
The fifth one said,
“I’m ready for some fun!”
Then “OOOOOh went the wind
And out went the lights,
And the five little Jack O’ Lanterns rolled out of sight.

October 2011

Dear Parent,
Ten weeks of Preschool, we are on the 10th Commandment from God --how exciting.  There will be a lot going on in the next few weeks that I’d like to let you know about.  Plus last week, Wednesday, October 12th we had some very special visitors! Smokey the Bear and his Firefighter buddies came and shared fire safety with us. Friday, October 7th we had a special visit from Mrs. Maciel, on fire safety and her experience as a volunteer EMT/Firefighter.  She showed us her uniform (letting the children try it on) and talked about fire safety with us.  Such as Stop, Drop and Roll, 911, stay low to the ground, do not hide from firefighters, and never touch matches or lighters etc…
I’d like to take this time to “Thank you” all for making sure we have fresh snacks every day. You are awesome! As we start our Halloween Fun weeks, I’d like to fill you in on what’s happening.  Our Great Pumpkin Patch Day Snack list is filled up (Thank You) we still have two items that need to be signed up for—if you dare J
               1. 48 Spooky Day Little Mummies using the mini cocktail  sausages   (2/child)
               2. 28 Plain undecorated pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies  (We will   decorate during our party)
We also will be posting a Halloween Carnival Sign-Up (Saturday, October 29th) to help work the “Fishing Booth we will share this with Mrs. Irma/Mrs. Romero’s class.  We are asked as a class to provide a raffle item, usually a basket or Gift Certificate.  I will find out what we are going to need and let you know  how you can help.
Next week is conference week; although our class’ conferences will be held next month in November.  OLM’s Library will be having a book fair next week as well.  Please support our Library by stopping by and purchasing a book or two for your little one and you to enjoy together.  Mrs. Poole our Librarian invited us visit the Library on Thursday, October 6th (Yea! mini field trip). She showed us around the Library and read a funny story about “A Cat in Boots.” We had a lot of fun and will be planning another visit around Christmas time.
Next week, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I will be gone.  Mrs. Romero and Mrs. O will be filling in for me on those days, along with Miss Vanessa on Tuesday.  Mrs. Nicole will be helping Mrs. Irma out while Mrs. Romero fills in for me.
Reminders for your calendar, this week “Show and

September 13, 2011

Dear Parent,

I am excited that this is week five and as a class we are doing so great!
Our theme is “Fly-Butterfly-Fly!  We have been having lots of fun looking for and chasing butterflies during recess. Your child will begin tracing their “school name” (capital Letter followed by lower-case, ex: Margie) this week.  In class we are concentrating on the letters C and D, and numbers 1-5.
We have been working on learning and following our class rules:
1. Be a Friend.
2. Listen to the Teachers.
3. Use nice words, nice hands, and nice feet.
4. Walk inside, (we can run outside on the green grass).
5. Have Fun!

*Next week will be Show and Tell Week!!!  I have assigned your child one day to bring in one item for sharing.  If this day is not good, let me know and I will change it.  This will be your child’s day during Show and Tell Week throughout the year. If your child is sick, or does not attend on their day, just have them bring in their Show and Tell item the next day they attend school. J  The objective of Show and Tell is for your child to get comfortable sharing with their classmates. I will help them by asking a few questions about their Show and Tell, then letting them go around our circle to “show” their friends.

We also will be working on “Apples-Yum!  *Could you please have your child bring in one apple to share, by Wednesday of next week- (any color).  We will be counting, graphing, tasting and making applesauce.  Thank You!

God Bless you and your family,
Mrs. Margie Varner
